The Creature (Part One)

If you know me personally, or have been a long time follower of THOIA then you also probably know what I consider to be one of the greatest movie monsters of all time--- The Creature from the Black Lagoon! The Dec-Feb 1963 issue of Dell Movie Classic #142 "The Creature" hit stands nearly 10 years after the Jack Arnold film was released, and like most Dell monster comics from this series (see also Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman, and The Mummy) is not a direct adaptation of the Universal movie, though the Creature's design is identical. It's a rather lengthy comic at 32 story pages, so today I'm posting the first 2/3rds of it... you'll have to come back later this week for the exciting conclusion which I promise contains much less talk and lots more creepy Creech action!

To be continued...

Derelict Fleet / Process of Elimination

Full speed ahead with our "Horrors on the High Seas" theme, and here are two more ACG classics for you today--- "The Derelict Fleet" from the September 1953 issue of Adventures into the Unknown #47, featuring some exceptionally weird 'n wild art by THOIA fave Jon Blummer ...and then "Process of Elimination" from the March 1954 issue of Out of the Night #13, a violent werewolf tale that thankfully enough doesn't have the usual ACG happy ending.

Vampire of the Deep

Okay, before anyone groans about another vampire, please know that this isn't your typical, everyday vampire story. From the June 1953 issue of Forbidden Worlds #18 (and fabulous art by Lin Streeter), this marks the end of the blood suckers for awhile, and the start of another theme as we head out on the scary high seas for more horrors lurking above, and below the surface! Bring some extra Dramamine and a life jacket--- you'll need it!
